Postpartum depression is real: How to support mother dealing with PPD?

Even though the birth of a child usually seems to be a happy event, Postpartum depression (PPD) occurs sometime in new mothers. It is characterized by feelings of sadness, anxiety, and exhaustion that can interfere with daily life and bonding with the child. PPD can occur within the first few weeks after childbirth or even up to a year later. In simple words, Postpartum depression is best understood as an adjustment disorder. Hormonal readjustments as well as psychological factors like dealing with a new identity, lack of social support, setting unrealistic expectations from oneself and others, and family or personal history of depression etc might be the cause of it.   In an Interview with Times of India, actress Ileana after becoming a mother talks about her Post Partum depression.
